About

The Goalie Guild  exists to advance and enhance your understanding of the goaltending position through a wide variety of exclusive and unique features, content, analysis, insight and interactive experiences.

We also provide you with an edge in the fantasy realm, as we enhance your netminding knowledge through our sound advice and personalized mailbag feature. Everything from fantasy hockey analysis to insight on prospects, goalie profiles, radio interviews, mask and equipment updates and other features,  is an authentic website that honors the  historic guilds from the middle ages.

We don’t see goaltenders just as hockey players, we see them as evolved Medieval Knights.

Wearing protective gear and armed with a powerful sword, goaltenders enter a battle every time they step on the ice, putting their lives on the line for the ultimate glory of the team, the win and the right to do it again another day. It was through this enduring correlation between Medieval knights and hockey players that The Goalie Guild was founded.

Historic. Legendary. Honorable. Powerful. Goaltenders are truly a rare breed. We display stone-cold poise, mental toughness, quick reflexes that perplex the mind and the apt psychological traits to stop players dead in their tracks. The art of goaltending is the art of denial and deception, a historic trade that will last forevermore.

For those that follow the historic ideals of the goaltending community and believe in continuing to educate through experience, you have a special home here at The Goalie Guild. Our website includes a wealth of unique sources that go beyond statistics and basic news updates by asking questions that push our understanding of the position. This site is not just a resource for in-depth goaltending analysis, it’s also a “goalies only” home for us to philosophize, conceptualize, create, congegrate, debate and celebrate.

The Goalie Guild is an extension of The Hockey Guild, which was founded by Justin Goldman on June 1st, 2007. Justin was born in March of 1982 just outside of Dallas, Texas in a rural farming town called Parker. His path that led to becoming a competitive goaltender and a private coach all started when the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Dallas in 1993. Justin instantly started skating at the very first Dr. Pepper StarsCenter in Valley Ranch and developed his game over the summers at Peak Performance and Rick Heinz Goalie Schools, along with numerous private lessons.

Upon graduation from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Justin chose to take the educational path by attending Colorado State University for technical journalism, broadcasting and creative writing. He was able to play for their D-II American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) team before an opportunity to be the first-ever reporter for the Colorado Eagles (CHL), which joined the league in 2003 and played out of Loveland, which was minutes away from campus.

During the 2003-2004 season, Justin developed great relationships with a number of Eagles employees and players, which inspired him to dedicate his career to promoting the game and the goalie position. His passion for writing, broadcasting and analyzing the goaltending the position would be given a major boost when he was approached by a publisher looking to hire an editor and designer for the very first statewide hockey publication in Colorado.

And so in March of 2003, Justin single-handedly brought the Colorado Hockey Insider to life. This included editing, managing, designing, promoting and even distributing the free monthly publication to over 200 locations throughout the State. Every month he would travel through the northern areas of Ft. Collins, Loveland and Greeley, the Denver Metro Area, Littleton and even Castle Rock dropping off issues at rinks, sporting good stores, recreation centers and more.

The publication, which started at only eight pages and 2,000 issues grew on a monthly basis and reached a 32-page tabloid format with over 18,000 issues being printed every month. It was a grueling, tiresome, frustrating process at times, but Justin stuck to his guns and never wavered in his dedication to the publication’s success.

In May of 2007, another calling led Justin to leave his post as the editor-in-chief and designer in order to start his own company. On June 1st, which happens to be St. Justin’s Day, The Hockey Guild was born.

The Hockey Guild’s mission statement is to advance and enhance local hockey communities through a wide variety of on and off-ice experiences. The website is the company’s hub and also acts as a gateway for The Avalanche Guild, The Coyotes Guild and the Quest for the Crown Charity Hockey Tournament Series.
